About the Role
We are working with an ambitious commercial law firm in Chester to hire a Compliance Officer to join their largest team, handling some of the firm’s most complex and high-risk matters. In this role, you will be involved in client due diligence throughout the client and matter lifecycle, supporting fee earners and the compliance function while supervising the onboarding team. The firm is looking for someone with at least one year of recent experience in corporate AML, SOF and SOW analysis, gained within a legal environment.
The responsibilities will include:
- Work collaboratively to ensure compliance with CDD and AML obligations
- Analysing and documenting corporate structures and ownership to identify UBOs
- Identifying and researching PEPs and high-risk clients
- Conducting adverse media checks
- Undertaking detailed SOFs and SOWs enquiries, requesting and annotating evidence where appropriate
- Preparing onboarding summaries for fee earners
- Assisting with ongoing monitoring as required
- Supporting the compliance team to keep the firm-wide AML risk assessment current and relevant
- Recommending practical amendments to policies and procedures to improve the CDD/AML process
- Escalating relevant matters to senior compliance colleagues
- Keeping abreast of legislative, regulatory and best practice changes in CDD/AML
The successful candidate will bring excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and clear communication with colleagues and clients alike. You should be confident working both collaboratively and independently, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
